• What is the life of the PETL Light on one battery?
  • PETL Lights last 3 to 6 days on a constant setting and 5 to 8 days on a flashing selection. US Army testing reported an average of 4.5 days to 9.5 days on a constant setting. The longevity depends on the color selection. Infrared last close to 48 hours constant and 72 hours on a flashing selection.


  • How long will the PETL Lights last on the shelf?
  • The PETL Lights have CR2 lithium metal batteries with a shelf life of 5 years. Once you replace the CR2 battery most of the shelf brands like Duracell or Energizer have shelf lives of 10 years. Following is an email from a customer related to this question. “What is the "normal" battery life?? Just curious on this one. I know that ours had to be at least 6 or 7 years old. They had been stored in a Pelican case outside in a trailer. So they were subject to very extreme temps during winter and summer of each year. And EVERY single one of them worked. That was amazing!!”


  • Are the PETL Lights waterproof?
  • PETL Lights were originally designed to meet a 66 ft. depth requirement. Today they have been used successfully by divers around the world. One company tested the PETL Lights to a depth of 200 ft. for one minute.


  • How far can the visual signal be seen?
  • This depends very much on environmental conditions. Third parties have reported from ¾ of a mile to a mile away.


  • How well do they hold up in heat or cold?
  • The PETL Lights have been field tested by AFSOC personnel to a temperature of -20 degrees for an hour with no issues reported. The PETL Light enclosure is made of silicon so they perform in very low and very high temperature settings. One fireman personally reported having used the PETL Lights in close to 500 degree scenarios and it was still working. This gentleman brought the PETL Lights down to -109 degrees, then thawed the PETL Lights and they still continued to function. He also proceeded to drop them in boiling water and they still kept on functioning.


  • Have the PETL Lights been evaluated by independent third parties?
  • The PETL Light technology has been evaluated by various organizations with very positive results. A few examples follow:
    • The manufacturer of the PETL Lights and the PETL Light technology have been vetted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s, “Safety Act” program and have been designated a, “Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology”. The PETL Light technology has also been certified an, “Approved Product for Homeland Security”.
    • The IAB (Inter-Agency Board) has evaluated the PETL Lights and has associated them with two SEL (Standardized Equipment List) numbers. SEL 03OE-03-GLRL - System, Marking Green Line/Red Line, and SEL 09MS-01-TTAG – Tags and Supplies, Triage
    • U.S. Army PEO Soldier evaluated. Lab tested MIL STD 810 and we passed. The Sept 2013 LUE report found the PETL Lights were preferred to chemlights and that all medics who participated found them more beneficial than chemical lights for MEDEVAC/triage

  • How are the PETL Lights attached to personnel or equipment?
  • The PETL Lights have various attachment methods. A few follow:
    • S-Biner – allows for the quick and easy clipping of the PETL Light to almost anything
    • 3” Elastic T-Tab – allows for the PETL Lights to be easily attached to MOLLE or helmet straps.
    • Cross bottomed magnetic end cap – this accessory allows for easy magnetic attachment, attaching via a clip to the base and it keeps the PETL Lights in a standing position. The crossed bottom prevents the PETL Lights from rolling away when thrown or dropped.
